Barca sends Chygrynskiy back to Shakhtar

The 23-year-old defender left the Ukrainian side for Barca in August 2009 but has been allowed to return for a cut-price fee of $19 million after making just 14 appearances for the Catalan giants.

Chygrynskiy signed immediately after the two sides had contested the European Super Cup final in August but was unable to dislodge either Carles Puyol or Gerard Pique as the starting central defenders during a frustrating campaign.

Meanwhile, newly-installed president Sandro Rosell has revealed the deal was necessary for the Spanish giants to balance the books.

They recently sold Yaya Toure to Manchester City but spent $53 million last month on Spain striker David Villa and continue to aggressively pursue Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.
