Brewers, K-Rod come to terms

Baseball Betting Lines

01/17/2012 - Milwaukee, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Milwaukee Brewers and right-handed reliever Francisco Rodriguez have reportedly agreed on a one-year deal, thus avoiding arbitration.

Unable to land a free agent deal to his liking, Rodriguez accepted the team's arbitration offer during the Winter Meetings and although financial terms were not released, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the deal is worth $8 million, $3.5 million less than the $11.5 million he earned last season.

Given his high salary in 2011 it was odd that the Brewers even offered him arbitration considering he would be a set-up man at best with John Axford entrenched as the team's closer.

Rodriguez, who was acquired on July 12 of last season in a trade from the New York Mets, had a mutual option worth $17.5 million dollars for next season declined by the Brewers shortly after the end of the season.

The major-league record holder for saves in a single season (62), Rodriguez had a 6-2 record with a 2.64 ERA and 23 saves last season, serving mainly as an eighth-inning man with Milwaukee.

Milwaukee still has three players in arbitration: RHP Shaun Marcum and relievers Kameron Loe and Jose Veras.
