Brewers send Gallardo to the hill against Astros

Baseball Betting Lines

06/29/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Emerging 24-year-old ace Yovani Gallardo gets an eighth career crack at the Houston Astros tonight when the Milwaukee Brewers host them in the middle game of a three-game National League Central Division series at Miller Park.

A second-round draft pick in 2004, Gallardo was a nine-game winner in 20 appearances as a rookie in 2007, before injuries limited him to just four starts and no decisions a season later.

He returned to win 13 times in 30 starts last season and picked up victory No. 7 in start No. 16 of 2010 on June 24, scattering five hits over nine scoreless innings with a season-best 12 strikeouts in a 5-0 downing of the Minnesota Twins.

Gallardo has pitched six innings or more in all five June starts, finishing seven innings twice and going the distance once while lowering an already solid earned run average from 2.78 to 2.36.

He is 5-2 in seven previous starts against the Astros with a 2.30 ERA across 47 innings of work.

Houston sends hard-throwing righty Brett Myers to the mound against Milwaukee for the second time this season.

Myers, who was drafted by Philadelphia in 1999 and pitched with them through the end of last season, met the Brewers for the first time as an Astro on May 27 in Wisconsin and allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings of a game Houston lost, 4-3.

He's 2-2 with a no-decision in five starts since, including a 6-3 victory against San Francisco in his most-recent start on June 23.

In nine lifetime games against the Brewers -- five starts -- Myers is 4-1 with a save and two complete games while posting a 1.94 ERA in 41 2/3 innings.

On Monday, Pedro Feliz doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh and the Astros scored seven runs over the last four innings to walk away with a 9-5 win.

Michael Bourn had four hits, including his first homer of the season, scored twice and knocked in two. Hunter Pence scored two runs and had a two-run single in a three-hit game and Carlos Lee added two hits and two RBI.

Feliz contributed three hits and two runs scored for the Astros, who dropped two of three to the red-hot Rangers over the weekend.

Bud Norris, activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, went five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) with six strikeouts and one walk. Gustavo Chacin (1-0) earned the win for pitching a scoreless sixth.

Corey Hart had three hits and knocked in two and Ryan Braun went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Brewers, who had won six of their previous seven games.

Milwaukee took two of three from the Astros earlier in the season and has won seven of the last 10 overall matchups.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.

Current betting odds Heisman trophy are:
