Gonzalez, Padres rout Rockies

Baseball Betting Lines

04/21/2007 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Adrian Gonzalez homered and matched his career- high with four runs batted in, and Chris Young threw seven strong innings as the San Diego Padres routed the Colorado Rockies, 11-1, at Coors Field.

Young (2-1) allowed just one run on four hits. He walked none and struck out seven. Young, who lost Sunday at Los Angeles ending his major league record- tying mark of 25 straight starts on the road without a loss, also singled and knocked in a run. Doug Brocail pitched two perfect innings in relief for the Padres, who have won three of their last four games.

Rob Bowen had a career-high three hits and drove in a run in the win. Marcus Giles had two hits and two RBI and Mike Cameron had three hits for the Padres, who finished with 17 hits.

Yorvit Torrealba knocked in the only run for the Rockies, who have dropped two games in a row.

Colorado Starter Josh Fogg (0-1) struggled mightily, allowing eight runs -- seven earned -- on 11 hits, while walking three and striking out three.

After Giles flied out to right to start the game, Jose Cruz walked and Brian Giles singled, setting the stage for Gonzalez, who drilled a 3-2 pitch well into the seats in right-center field, giving the Padres a 3-0 lead.

Bowen doubled with one out in the second, advanced to third on Young's infield single and scored on Marcus Giles' line drive single, putting San Diego ahead, 4-0.

Colorado scored its only run in the bottom half of the frame. Matt Holliday led off with a single to center, stole second as Jeff Baker struck out and scored on Torrealba's single to right.

San Diego pulled away from Colorado with five runs in the fourth. Giles hit an RBI single up the middle, giving the Padres a 5-1 cushion. Cameron followed with San Diego's fourth consecutive single, loading the bases and chasing Fogg. Matt Herges entered from the bullpen and allowed four more runs in the inning.

Khalil Greene hit into a fielder's choice, scoring the Padres sixth run. Bowens's groundout a couple batters later scored the seventh. Young then reached on Todd Helton's fielding error, plating another, and Giles followed with a run-scoring single.

Russell Branyan led off the sixth with a walk and Bowen followed with a double to right-center. Young then grounded out, scoring Branyan and putting San Diego on top 10-1.

Geoff Blum's double play groundout scored Branyan in the eighth, capping the scoring.

Game Notes

Marcus Giles extended his hitting streak to 10 games...All three of the Rockies losses on this homestand have been by seven runs or more...Young is now 4-0 with a 2.65 ERA against Colorado.
