Young lefties clash as Mets, Braves continue set

Baseball Betting Lines

04/21/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Oliver Perez hopes his long layoff pays off when the New York Mets continue their three-game set with the Atlanta Braves this afternoon at Shea Stadium.

Perez has not pitched since an absolutely abysmal outing against the Philadelphia Phillies back on April 11. While his line of three runs and one hit over 2 2/3 innings may not seem all that bad, he also walked seven and hit a batter to fall to 1-1 on the year, while having his earned run average raised to 3.72.

The 25-year-old lefty's lone win this season win came against the Braves and he has fared pretty well against them in his career. In seven starts versus Atlanta, Perez is 3-3 with a 3.33 ERA.

Atlanta will counter with 25-year-old left-hander Chuck James, who is 2-1 on the year with a 2.25 ERA. James suffered his first loss of 2007 Monday against the Washington Nationals, as he surrendered three runs and five hits in five innings.

James is 1-1 lifetime against the Mets with a 5.56 ERA in four games, two of which have been starts.

In the series opener on Friday, Tim Hudson tossed eight shutout innings and Mets third baseman David Wright's team-record 26-game hitting streak came to an end as Atlanta topped New York, 7-3.

Hudson (3-0) only allowed five hits while fanning three and walking a pair. Chipper Jones hit a two-run home run and scored three times for the Braves, who have won three of four.

Shawn Green belted a two-run home run for the Mets, who had a three-game winning streak stopped and fell for just the second time in their last seven tries.

New York starter Mike Pelfrey (0-1) was roughed up for six hits and four runs in five innings. The young righty struck out three and walked a pair.

Wright went 0-for-3 with a walk, failing to extend his hit streak that began last September.

Atlanta has won three of four from the Mets this season, but New York holds a slight 12-10 edge in the series since the start of last season. The Braves also split their last 30 games played in Flushing.

Eastern Conference Playoff Betting Trends

We all know by now that the “public” loves to put their money on the FAVORITES and the OVERS.  Just by taking a quick glance at Sportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends” it appears as is this tendency will continue as far as the Eastern Conference games are concerned.  For the inaugural games of the first round, 69% of the early money is on Toronto -4.5; 59% of bettors prefer Chicago -4.5; 84% are backing Detroit -9; and 56% think Cleveland -11.5 is the way to go.  As far as TOTALS are concerned, the only UNDER the “public” is backing is the Cleveland/ Washington game in which 83% are pounding the UNDER (190).  Remember, there is no better way to predict a possible line change than by monitoring MySportsbook.com’s “Betting Trends”.   By determining who the “public” is backing, you can get the most ideal line for your bet.  For example, if you are siding with the public you better place your bet before the line moves in the wrong direction.  On the other side of the coin, if you prefer the team that the “public” is betting against; you might be able to get and extra ½ or even more by placing your bet a bit later.  Under the “Betting Trends” section, Sportsbook.com also provides plenty of statistical data and trends in order for the bettor to make the most informed pick.  Below are some extremely important trends for the first round opponents of the Eastern Conference match-ups, more can be found at MySportsbook.com
